Purple Rain in Tanzania: A Jacaranda Morning

Taken on: November 7, 2023

Location: A residential street in Arusha, Tanzania

On the morning of November 7th, 2023, I stumbled upon a scene that felt like a dream — rows of jacaranda trees in full bloom, painting the skies in vibrant lavender hues.

Each branch reached toward the sky, covered in thousands of delicate purple blossoms. The ground beneath was carpeted with fallen petals, as if nature had laid out a violet welcome mat just for me.

These are jacaranda trees, a familiar sight in many parts of Africa, but in Tanzania — especially when lining quiet residential roads — they feel like something out of a fairytale. From late October to early November, they transform the streets into rivers of color.

That morning, I paused to take it all in. The sunlight filtering through the petals, the soft shadows cast across the road, the gentle flutter of petals in the breeze — everything felt cinematic.

“How often do we overlook beauty this breathtaking in our everyday lives?”

I didn’t just capture photos that day; I captured a feeling — the kind you want to bottle and keep. Standing on that purple path, beneath the flowering canopy, I felt like I had been placed on nature’s stage.

Beneath the purple rain, where dreams and petals fall together

And I quietly made myself a promise:

I’ll return again — same time, same place.
